Americans sometimes call their country a nation of immigrants -- but there's a place across the Atlantic you might call the continent of immigrants, based on migration patterns in recent decades.
During a visit to AP headquarters in New York, AP Brussels reporter SLOBODAN LEKIC, who frequently covers the European Union, sat down with AP Deputy International Editor NICOLAS B. TATRO to talk about immigration into and around Europe -- and evolving attitudes toward immigrants among Europeans.
"It's now virtually impossible for any immigrant to get in legally, aside from people like Iraqi refugees, who are welcome in some countries, in Sweden for instance," Lekic says. "Even legitimate refugees can't make it to Europe, people seeking political asylum."
To hear their conversation -- and learn how the immigrants are traveling to Europe -- listen to this asap podcast.
